Features In Detail

Details & Advantages

ACCURATE AND SENSITIVE

The body is symmetrical and well clear of the three rotating cups which helps to minimise interfering eddies. The dynamic characteristics of the unit are exceptionally good because the moment of inertia of the rotating parts is very low. The above features enhance the sensitivity of the instrument and make it ideally suited to the study of micro-climates, as well as meso-scale monitoring.

ROBUST

The output pulses are generated by Hall Effect triggers mounted on the lower end of the spindle, which provide an ideal friction-less and ultra-reliable sensing mechanism, that is quite robust and will not require recalibration for many years.

DUST & MOISTURE RESISTANT

The spindle body is undercut to prevent entrance of moisture through the upper “O”ring. A labyrinth significantly reduces entrance of dust or moisture into the upper bearing.

MEETS EPA REQUIREMENTS

Use Environdata’s IS37 10m tilt-down engineer rated instrument mast and WD5X Series Wind Direction sensor in conjunction with the WS5X Series Sensor for a complete wind monitoring package suitable to meet EPA requirements in all states and territories of Australia (including AM-1, AM-2, AM-4 in NSW).

MEETS AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS

This anemometer will meet the Australian Standards AS3580.14 and when used as part of an Environdata Weather Station (by connecting to a Weather Maestro, WeatherMate 3000 or WeatherWombat data logger) can provide you with very accurate tracking of the wind, including sigma theta calculations from the data logger, AirData Software for calculating the net movement of the air, and WindRose for displaying a graphical summary of wind distribution over time.

Structure

Three conical shaped cups with integral mounting arm are connected to the central spindle. Molded from a special UV stable grade of polycarbonate, the cupset is extremely strong, light, weather resistant and precision balanced. As the air movement pushes the cups they rotate about the central spindle. The spindle is supported by two precision stainless steel low-friction bearings, which results in low starting threshold, and excellent wind speed accuracy. The body of the sensor is CNC Machined from Aerospace grade Aluminium which is clear anodized for further corrosion resistance.
