Black Globe Temperature Sensor
Environdata’s Black Globe Temperature sensor is a high quality electronic sensor designed to measure radiant heat temperature.
The matt black copper globe responds to the heating effects of solar radiation, and radiant heat sources, as well as the cooling effects of precipitation and wind. The effect of the copper globe is to measure temperature as felt by a body, as opposed to the temperature measured as the ambient air temperature.

Features In Detail
Details & Advantages
Utilising a 6” diameter copper globe provides a large enough surface area to provide meaningful data. The 6” globe is the standard used by researchers to develop the heat stress calculations & meets WMO & ISO standards for Black Globe Temperature Sensors.
Smaller globes do not meet the standards and have proven to be unreliable in Australian conditions.
The BG Series sensor utilises high stability components and provides accurate, stable and reliable temperature sensing. The temperature stability allows realistic temperature measurement accuracies of better than ±0.1°C over the entire measurement range.
A microprocessor reads the voltage from the sensing element and provides a very stable square-wave frequency proportional to the soil temperature. The electronic circuit is encapsulated in potting compound inside a fully sealed ABS housing with a neoprene gasket; the sensing tip is also fully sealed, inside a welded stainless steel tip.
The BG70 includes a sensor bracket to allow easy, robust fitment of the sensor tip into the globe, and the whole assembly to your chosen post. We recommend the sensor is installed between 1.5 and 2 metres above ground level, and is not shaded by other equipment or infrastructure throughout the day.
The sensor cable is 3 core custom wound, which is shielded and UV stabilised with a weatherproof connector.
